Unveiling My Personal Story of Recovery: A Journey to Healing

My Journey

My journey to recovery from addiction and relapse has been challenging, but also filled with joy and amazement. It started when I was a young teen. It wasn't until my late thirties when I stumbled upon recovery. Looking back, I realize how far I've come and the obstacles I've had to overcome. What started out as smoking pot and drinking beer quickly escalated into a full-blown heroin addiction. I found myself spiraling out of control, engaging in dangerous behaviors, and putting myself at risk. I've suffered a near fatal gunshot wound in a bar, a knife wound outside of a bar, and I've been arrested too many times to count. Today, I am proud to say that I am in long-term recovery. I have been sober for several years and have dedicated my life to helping others who are struggling with addiction. I am proof that recovery is possible, no matter how far gone you may feel. Along this path, I have discovered the incredible healing power of horses, breath work, cold water immersion, energy movement, and yoga. These newfound practices have allowed me to connect with my body, mind, and spirit in a profound way, helping me to overcome the physical and emotional pain that plagued me. Through the gentle presence and riding of horses, I have learned patience, trust, and the importance of being in the present moment. Breath work and energy movement have enabled me to release grief, tension, and negative emotions, while cold water immersion, mostly cold showers as well as an occasional ice bath and going in to cold body's of water, has had amazing benefits for me physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I have also experienced some kind of opening of my heart and soul, combined with a lifting of my spirit. Yoga has provided me with strength, flexibility, and a sense of inner peace. This holistic approach to recovery has truly transformed my life, giving me the tools and support I need to maintain my sobriety and find true healing from within. My passion is to pass it on!
